Embracing Yourself and Staying in Your Own Lane

When going through the motions of self-love and self-improvement, you’re bound to see someone going through the same process. Whether it be your sister, friend, or just a person you happen to speak to, everyone’s trying to become better versions of themselves, and that’s absolutely amazing! But the trap and fall comes when you watch them in their process and start to wonder why your timeline is a little longer than theirs or why their road looks a little sunnier than yours. It’s a tempting view to look at but, girl, save yourself the stress and do not compare yourself to others!

Comparison is the thief of all joy!

I’ve often fallen into the trap of comparison (which can sometimes lead to envy!) but, thankfully, I got out of that rut. Here are some things that helped me to remember and keep in mind so you can continue staying in your lane.

Comparing yourself to others is also a way of neglecting yourself.

One thing you may not realize is that the time you spend focusing on what others have and how their lives are going is time being taken away from your own blessings, gifts, and talents. Time is precious so it ought to be spent honing and perfecting your craft. The more TLC you give to their achievements and accomplishments is less TLC given to your own. The more time you spend relishing the talents and gifts of others is less time spent drooling over your own. Do you get what I’m saying?

Babe, YOU ARE UNIQUE! Your path is unique, your timing is unique, and your struggles are unique.

No two people are the same.

Embrace it, own it, and focus on your blessings.

You’ll thank yourself for it in the future.

You need to love your gifts & talents more than you love others.

I have yet to meet a person that doesn’t love at least one Beyonce song. You may love her music, her acting, the way she carries herself… whatever! But you know what you should love even more than you love her? Your gifts. Your talents!

When you love someone, you want to better them. You want to see them thrive, do great things, be happy, and just be amazing. The same should go for you. You have to embrace and love your unique talents & gifts. You can embrace these beautiful things by positively exploiting them. Let those parts of you shine! And the parts you don’t like, you can continue to work on as you see fit. But in order to really embrace every part of yourself, you need to let those parts of you shine.

Remember that owning your gifts means you need to focus on YOU.

We live in a world and time where people understand that they can voice every opinion that comes to their minds and exercise free speech. While that is true, it’s important not to do so ignorantly.

If it’s something you know nothing about or has no business speaking on, sis, stay in your lane. Keep your head down, work on yourself, and keep it pushing. Oftentimes, when we start engaging in banter and conversation over things that don’t matter, we start to lose sight of the things that deserve and need our attention; the things that do matter. Things like self-improvement, self-enhancement, and self-love, sis. Those things matter.

Sis, it’s perfectly okay to look at the journey, process, & life of others and be happy for them. But once you start comparing your apples to their oranges, you start to lose focus of what’s really important: you and your happiness. Embrace your journey.

Embrace your gifts & talents. Embrace the flow of every single day. Each of those things is what makes you, YOU!
